Hello and welcome! It’s lovely to have you here 😊
With approaching nine years of experience as a private tutor, four years as an engineering demonstrator at the University of Melbourne, and now as a professional Mechatronics/Systems engineer, I have seen and experienced my fair share of student life, student struggles, and how both are evolving in a changing world. Over the years, I have become increasingly aware of how rarely key life skills and study strategies are taught to students; techniques which would make a world of difference to success in both studies and future careers. When I joined the professional workforce, I realised firsthand just how underprepared students are for the real world. Despite being a very successful student myself, I was no exception to this.
At school, I worked very, very hard to achieve an incredible score of 44/45 in IB (99.85 ATAR) and be awarded a dux secunda of my year. I was also the first student at Methodist Ladies College to ever achieve a 7 in Mathematics High Level coming from the mainstream mathematics program. This was not without cost however, as I ended up battling mental illness throughout Year 12 and over the next few years. Due to both my success and struggles, I immediately started tutoring after school as I was passionate about helping students get through their studies successfully and staying mentally well. I fully remembered and understood how tough it was, and I wanted to share everything I had learned.
Then throughout university, during both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Science and Engineering at the University of Melbourne, I realised there was so much I still didn't know about studying and student success. My time as an engineering demonstrator and assessor revealed to me how many younger students were missing valuable skills that I now knew as someone with more experience and insight. Once I realised the challenges students would be facing later in life, I decided to do something about it.
And so I created Gabriella Tutor.
Through Gabriella Tutor, I seek to help students 'study smart’; to teach students all the clever study strategies and key life skills that typically take students years to learn. These strategies will help students perform better at school and university with less stress, time and effort. The principle of Gabriella Tutor is to share these lessons NOW when students can make the most of them and get ahead early!
On top of that all, through my unique and extensive educational experiences - tutoring many, many students and learning the fine details of assessment and exam marking as a University assessor - I have cultivated some extra tricks that most students would never know, which I now want to share.
I wish I had known all of this when I was studying, and I’m sure it’s going to help you 😁
